When Growth Spurts Mess With Coordination (It’s Normal)
Share
If you have an athlete who’s hitting that puberty stage and growing fast, don’t be surprised if you start noticing some awkward movement, loss of coordination, or a dip in athleticism.
It’s not that they’re getting worse—it’s just that their body is changing faster than they can keep up with. New limb lengths, new joint angles, a different center of gravity… it all throws things off for a bit.
This is completely normal.
But here’s where a lot of parents panic and pull their kid out of sports or stop training because they think their kid has hit a wall. Please don’t make that mistake.
They need reps now more than ever. The more time they spend training and working on fundamentals during this phase, the faster their brain and body will adjust to the “new frame.” And once it all catches up, that’s when the gains start showing.
So stay patient, keep showing up, and let the process work.
This stage might feel like a step back, but it’s just a part of moving forward.
